DALLAS – Over 500,000 civilians and retirees from the Department of Defense and Coast Guard now have access to the world’s largest tax-free exchange at ShopMyExchange.com. Civilians in the DoD and Coast Guard were granted access to in-store purchases on May 1 after a change in DoD policy.
To authenticate active and retired civilian and retired DoD and Coast Guard employees for online purchases, the data coding had to be updated in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, which is now ended.
“With holiday shopping just around the corner, this is timely for these civilian shoppers,” said Exchange Director / CEO Tom Shull. “The Exchange is honored to welcome them to ShopMyExchange.com while further enhancing the advantage for Soldiers, Airmen and Guardians.”
The Exchange, the largest DoD retailer and the 54th largest retailer in the United States, has served combatants since 1895. The Exchange offers duty-free shopping and exclusive military prizes. 100% of trading income supports our military community.
Over the past 10 years, the Exchange Advantage has generated $ 3.4 billion in revenue for essential military quality-of-life programs such as equipping 700,000 combatants at cost each year, providing a support for school meals for the Ministry of Defense educational activity facilities abroad and the provision of necessary services in places affected by natural disasters.
The expansion of civil privileges marks the third time since 2017 that the Exchange’s business base has grown. In January 2020, all veterans with a service-related disability were welcomed back to the facility to shop in person. On Veterans Day 2017, all honorably released veterans were welcomed into their homes to buy tax free at ShopMyExchange.com.
