Andrej Kramaric returned to the Hoffenheim squad after a one-match absence due to a head injury for the 6-3 win at Fürth last time around, but started on the bench like Ihlas Bebou – with a hat-trick – and twice-scoring Georginio Rutter took the limelight. A second consecutive league victory – and third in four league appearances – pushed Sebastian Hoeneß’s men to fifth place, and was achieved without Christoph Baumgartner, whose muscle problem continues to trouble him. Ermin Bicakcic remains out some 14 months after suffering an ACL injury, while Robert Skov, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Pavel Kaderabek are also out. Benjamin Hübner could make his first Bundesliga appearance since the last day of the 2019/20 campaign. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann missed Fürth’s victory due to a recurring illness.

Frankfurt have a three-game winning streak in the league and have four games unbeaten to help them pick up their pace after a slow start. Oliver Glasner’s men remain in the bottom half of the table, however, and have struggled to score goals, despite Kostic’s best efforts. These include an assist for added time winner Evan N’Dicka last time against Union Berlin. Defensive leader Martin Hinteregger was on the bench for this game and still is today after an ankle problem, so Glasner stays with veteran Makoto Hasebe – almost 38 years old – alongside Tuta and N’Dicka in its bottom line. On the other side, Colombian striker Rafael Borre has the advantage over Sam Lammers and Goncalo Paciencia, although the latter suffered injuries.

To concern: Frankfurt’s last victory against the Union on Matchday 13

Match statistics

  • Kramaric has scored 84 Bundesliga goals in 172 appearances, but one in nine meetings with Frankfurt is proportionately his worst comeback against any top German opponents he has faced.
  • Although Baumann has maintained a joint record of five clean sheets so far this season, Hoffenheim have conceded the most goals (20) of any team currently in the top half of the table.
  • Hoffenheim have not achieved any wins in their last eight games against Frankfurt, losing their last six in a row.
  • Kostic has scored, assisted, or both in seven of his 12 Bundesliga appearances in 2021/22, including three of his last four.
  • Despite Kostic’s contribution to the top of the squad with three goals and five assists, Eintracht have only scored 16 times so far this season. This is their lowest return at this point since 2017/18.
  • On the bright side, Frankfurt won three straight Bundesliga matches for the first time under Glasner.
