India recorded their fourth victory over South Africa in South Africa by winning the first test match of the series by 113 races on the fifth and final day at Centurion’s SuperSport Park on Thursday (December 30th).

India’s fourth victory over South Africa came in 21 test matches. India’s other Proteas victories came in Johannesburg with 123 races in December 2006, 87 races in Durban in December 2010 and 63 races in Johannesburg in January 2018.

It was India’s 15th victory over South Africa in 40 test matches. They also lost the same number of tests and pulled 10 more.

** It was South Africa’s only third loss at SuperSport Park to Centurion in 27 tryouts, they won 21 and drew three. One of South Africa’s three defeats was the infamous double-call test against England in January 2000.

** Virat Kohli only became the fourth skipper after the South African Graeme Smith (53 wins in 109 Tests), the Australian Ricky Ponting (48 wins in 77 Tests) and Steve Waugh (41 wins in 57 Tests) at win at least 40 Test matches. Kohli’s 40th victory came in all 67 test matches. 24 of its 40 wins have come in 31 test matches in India, while 16 wins have been recorded in 36 test matches outside India.
